Things I’m Thankful for (not)Thanksgiving Thursday

(We’re waiting to celebrate turkey day till Saturday when, hopefully, my dad will be home from Florida. Thus the not-Thanksgiving bit in the title)

  • beautiful days
  • walks with mom, Katie, and Bobbin
  • munching
  • samosas from the gas station Indian restaurant in Denton πŸ™‚
  • pecan tassies
  • my health
  • cell phones to talk to those far away
  • melting things
  • Eddie Murphy’s goofy laugh (we just watched the Golden Child)
  • planting things
  • crafts
  • cows

Those are some of the random things I’m thankful for today. On Saturday I’ll try and post some more as well as our annual Thanksgiving family photo (though not on my camera–where is it?!!!)

p.s. Why am I so tired? I haven’t had any turkey!

Things I Love Thursday -Birthukkah edition

I really didn’t think I would get to writing a blog today. Especially tonight, but now I’m too jazzed to go to sleep (will regret this tomorrow)! SO! BLOG! πŸ˜€ Imagine I have Maureen’s big eyes for this entire entry.

We are in the throes of Birthukkah, that special time of year I appropriate for my special amusement. For those of you not in the know (I don’t think these people really exist as I’ve told everyone about Birthukkah), Birthukkah is the extended celebration of my birth (like Hanukkah is for 8 days). Get it? So the things I’ve loved about Birthukkah?

Memory Monday- people left me their favorite memories of me which included:

  • “How you managed to get pulled over after leaving Studio night with no headlights and expired license, and getting off the hook. Charm, 100% of the time.” ~Nick
  • “Jenny Lewis choosing us to be included in her little singing circle w/ her band in the middle of the audience. πŸ™‚ RAD.” ~Zharleen
  • “I remember when they pulled you out of me. You were mad! (Guess they woke you up.) You were screaming and screaming. Then they plopped you on my chest and you looked at me at it was like you said “oh, its you” and you shut up.”~My mom

Tinsel Tuesday when everyone told me movies that reminded them of me or movies they thought I should see. They were spot on for a lot of the recommendations too! Away We Go, Zombieland, The Court Jester!

Wisdom Wednesday had some great advice, including’plant your corn early’ Good to know!

Today was Things I Love About Sti Thursday in honor of this blog. This one revealed lovely things like:

  • “Ok…there is so much I love about you Sti… You are so kind, wise, loving, smart, caring and your love for books is awesome…”~Melinda
  • “I love that you can love yourself with confidence. ;-)”~Karen
  • “purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ;)” ~Leah

Seriously, all my friends are the best. Love love love.

In other things I love news:

New Moon Masquerade went really well, and now I don’t feel the need to actually see the movie. I am so Twilighted out.

And finally, I love 3 hour long coffee dates with a boy who understands obscure Hitchhiker’s Guide references and more of my oddness. And plans for Thai food tomorrow…

Things I Love Thursday!

Once again, Thursday has snuck up on me! The City was closed for Veteran’s Day yesterday so it feels like a Monday to me. But I am so happy it is Thursday, that means good tv, and the weekend coming soon! And this will be a great weekend, though I just found out my baby sister won’t be coming home.Β  But that means I won’t have to stress about not spending enough time with her because of the other things I’ll be doing. But since those events are in the future I’ll leave them for next week’s post, which I have a feeling will be a doozy!

Mostly the things I love this week have to do with seeing my close friend/ex-college roomie yesterday. Kat live is Katy, Tx which is a little over an hour from where I live now (very different than right down the hall as was the case for over 3 years). To add to the changes, she’s married and has a baby. I haven’t seen her since she was preggers and baby Jemma is now almost 2 months old. I’ve misplaced my camera so I didn’t get to take any pictures, but here are a few things I loved from yesterday:

Baby smell, serious blue eyes, the new nickname ‘moushka’, introducing Kat to twitter (she’s @moushkamama), hearing/seeing slightly gross but educational things about giving birth, resurrecting the ‘so there you go’ catchphrase with Clay, watching the Office, funky 1960’s aprons, baking pumpkin bread and chilli while Kat fed Jemma, peanut m&ms, playing with Wrigley, rubbing Tallulah’s belly, tiny baby socks, showing off my UK photos, talking about old times, making new plans, boxed wine, andΒ  just talking to Kat.

Kat, Clay and Jemma

Things I’m looking forward to loving this weekend: Wearing The Dress again (must steam it tonight!), seeing Jana perform, the Rayburn’s party, book club (must finish A Tree Grows in Brooklyn!!), maybe seeing Pirate Radio?

I’m sure there are more thinkgs that I’ve loved recently but all of my kids are gathered ’round my desk and I just noticed I lost my community service volunteer…

Things I Love Thursday

Oh Thursday! You’re already/finally here! I’m really looking forward to the weekend, there are lots of things I want to get done/relax and finally kick this illness- it’s annoying.

So, things I love:

Spending time with friends: isn’t that an obvious one? Friday E and M had a party and we were all up till 4am because the boys got caught up in their man-chatter, and poor M had to pay for it the next day- he was late for his mock trial practice and had a killer hangover.

Musicals: Saw Mary Poppins with Bob and Bagel on Sunday. It was…good but a little underwhelming overall. The good songs were really amazingly good and the rest were a little meh. But it was fun to be with Bob and Bagel!

Finding new recipes: On a whim I used a recipe on the back of a bag of frozen green beans yesterday and it turned out to be totally yummy. I have transcribed it into my special, rarely used but totally adorable recipe box.

Beautiful fall days: We don’t have 4 actual seasons here, it’s more like Hot, Dry Summer; Humid, Rainy Summer, 2 sporadic weeks of nice weather; grey and cold; 2 weeks of sporadic nice weather and back to summer. So when it’s blue skies and cool breezes I’m outside as much as possible. Sadly that’s hard when it’s dark by the time I leave work. Oh you daylights savings time. πŸ™‚

Old Movies: I was watching one of my new favorite sitcoms Accidentally on Purpose and I noticed that the main character Billie (who is movie critic for a newspaper) has a framed photo of James Cagney on the mantle in her bedroom. I love James Cagney! I don’t even care that he was several inches short than me, he rocks.Β  Now I want to go watch black and white movies all weekend. Sadly, I don’t own any Cagney films, so I may start with the Bachelor and the Bobbysoxer (have you seen it? Cary Grant, Myrna Loy, and a 16 year old Shirley Temple? SO good.)

the Glee station on Pandora: Granted they mostly just play Glee and Rent with some Disney songs thrown into the mix, but what, I ask you, is wrong with that? And I answer you, nothing. Nothing. at. all.Β

And most of all this: For the 20th anniversary of Say Anything BluRay release, there were tons of guys dressed as Lloyd Dobler in NYC! I wish I had been there! Heaven!

Birthday/Christmas List

It’s that time of year again! My birthday is just around the corner and Christmas isn’t far behind. I’m making a short list of things I’d like, just as a reminder for myself, not as instructions for all of you, faithful readers (i.e. BEDA buddies). But perhaps you’ll be inspired to tell me what your wishlists are. I know I always forget what I want when someone asks me. πŸ™‚

1. Awkward Zone: Defeated Print

2. I Believe- tshirt Girls XL

3. Picture frames. Lots.

4. Paint.

5. Something from Hark! A vagrant! like:

6.Β  Prints from A Softer World

7. Blood Ties Season 2

8. A new purse!

9. The Thin Man DVD Collection

That’s all I can think of for now. I spent all of yesterday lying on the couch dozing while rewatching the first season Blood Ties and totally forgot there was a second one! Loved that show. Looking at my choices, I know I’m such a nerd. But it’s so fun! πŸ™‚

More later. And good luck to all of you doing NaNoWriMo!
