BEDA Begins! Let me introduce myself.

Hi all! I should really be getting ready for work but that’s how excited I am for BEDA! (This could be a bad thing…)

Name: Christina “Sti” Hicks

Age: 25

Where I live: For the first time ever I actually live in Houston, Texas (when people from other places ask, that’s where I have to say I’m from)

Where I call “home”: when really the place I call Home (mostly because my mom gets upset when I call any other place Home) is Pearland, Tx mostly specifically my parents’ home on a little gravel road out in the county behind a Mexican restaurant 🙂

Why I blog: One of my favorite things about the internet (besides youtube and lolcats) is that it shows us how much of life is a shared experience and I think blogs go a long way towards showing that. I know that’s a rosy outlook on the murky waters of the internet, but I’m feeling optimistic today! I like to blog because I want to share the good things and the bad things that happen to me with other people who might understand and appreciate. And luckily, so far, that’s what has happened.

What part of BEDA I’m most excited about: I’m really excited about the teamwork we’ve put into it this year and the large support group we’ve built up for each other with the help and draw of a famous YA author 😛 I’m probably most excited about writing about quotes, get ready!

Why I’m doing BEDA [again]: To commemorate the event that brought all of us BEDA Buddies together and to challenge myself.

How I first discovered Maureen Johnson/BEDA: I first stumble upon MJ when I was reading Libba Bray’s blog back in 2006-2007 but I didn’t delve very deeply, I remember reading her tips for travel that were related to 13LBE and thinking they were neat. I had no idea how deep her neatness, or her madness, ran. When I started working at my library I read 13LBEs and Devilish and then found her blog. The rest, as they say, is history.

Something other BEDA people might not know about me: Um. I talk in my sleep? And I’m not really nice when I do it..

Another blog I follow: Oh gosh. I follow lots! Feminist-y:, Snarky entertainment:, librarian:, foodie: just plain ridiculous: to name a very few..

A writer (of any kind) who inspires me: Ray Bradbury.

A YouTube channel I love: I wish I watched more youtube channels, though it’s probably a good thing I don’t– I spend enough time online as it is. I watch the occasional vlogbrothers video and I recently discovered moymoypalaboy

Lip syncing Filipino boys? Yes please! 🙂

A favorite quote: This is problematic because I love love love quotes. I’ll just choose one for this post though.

“Run mad as often as you choose, but do not faint!” ~Jane Austen

Well, here we are, BEDA is here!

My coworker brought in this delicious AprilFool’s Day cake:

Kitty Litter cake!

Hope no one pranks you too badly today!

  1. Happy BEDA!
I’m waiting till August, but it is so cute that you guys are doing it now. That cake looks … um… yummy.

  2. OMG, that cake is just too much! We were lucky enough to have gotten the director. She left town before writing her article for the April Fool’s Day issue of the college paper. So a coworker (I helped) wrote it for her 🙂

I am going to have to look up some of those blogs you listed!

And I like what you said about blogging, and shared experiences. I hadn’t thought about it much, but it’s very true and very comforting.

Oh, dear God. I don’t know whether to be ashamed, proud, or just entertained that moymoypalaboy is Filipino. Sean & I discovered them a few years ago and laughed and laughed, but I can only take so much of them…
