My Bucket List

This is my entry in the Just Ask Bucket List Getaway Giveaway. Just Ask offers a breast and ovarian cancer screening and is encouraging people to share 15 things that I want to enjoy in my lifetime as a reminder to be aware of my health. Want to enter? Head over to TodaysMama.com to get the details.

I’ve been really lucky and healthy in my life so far, and a couple things have already been crossed off my bucket list. I hope it still counts though!

  1. Go to Australia
  2. Jump out of a plane
  3. Get a tattoo of something that is special to me
  4. Become a notary public
  5. Meet Neil Gaiman
  6. Be an auctioneer for at least one auction
  7. Learn to play the harmonica
  8. Visit my sister in Spain
  9. Get my Master’s Degree
  10. Have a job I’m passionate about
  11. Travel to Bhutan
  12. See Jane Austen’s house
  13. Swim with a sea turtle
  14. Be a godmother
  15. Run a half marathon
  16. Go on a transatlantic cruise

I think 7 out of 16 is pretty accomplished for 26 (almost 27 years), isn’t it? Perhaps I should be adding some new things to the list! Also, a lot of things I want to do before I die aren’t really list-material. They’re ongoing things like making and keeping great friendships, challenging myself to be creative etc.

So there’s my entry and a blog post for today. Hopefully I’ll also, finally, blog about my Halloween costume tonight!

Revisiting my birthday list

Well, not *yet*

Okay, so back during B3DA I started making a list of 27 things to do before I turned 27 and I never finished it! I have been working on crossing things off the list though, so I thought I should continue in a more conscious manner..

Here it is so far:

  1. Eat at Hubcap Grill‘s restaurant or food truck (I’ve followed them on twitter forever, but I’ve never eaten there!)
  2. Make doctor’s/dentist/eye doctor’s appointments and keep them!
  3. Run a 5k.
  4. Run a half marathon.
  5. Mod Podge book  pages onto my dresser drawers.
  6. Help create a Halloween costume.
  7. Keep plants alive on our patio and grow some more.
  8. Finish Jane Austen cross stitch
  9. Learn to embroider
  10. Throw a kick ass Halloween party
  11. Learn to cook…samosas
  12. Read Little Women
  13. Visit 3 new Houston museums
  14. Get my second holes re-pierced
  15. learn a song on the harmonica
  16. Wash my car, inside and out, once a month
  17. Write and mail 3 letters or postcards
  18. Develop my holga film (FROM LAST SUMMER)
  19. Work on handmade Christmas presents for family and friends
  20. Collect the entire filmography of one star (I have chosen Nia Vardalos)*
  21. Create and star in a calendar*
  22. Read 3 biographies/memoirs/autobiographies of people I admire (2down, in the middle of 1 other)
  23. Learn how to make a gif
  24. Teach Bartlet a new trick
  25. Go to the Boneyard with Bartlet
  26. Finish knitting my scarf
  27. Go to a MLB baseball game!

DONE!

B3DA Day 4: To Do List

One of my favorite food bloggers Joy the Baker recently decided to compile a “30 Things Before 30 Years” list of things to do before she turns 30 in a few months. Here’s her list so far. I like her ambition! I think someone else on the B3DA Blogroll is also doing something similar? Sorry I don’t remember which blog!

Anywho, as the greatest piece of advice that was ever given to me*  was by my grandfather’s cousin Claire “If you’re bored, you must be a boring person” I think I’d like to challenge myself to take on new things to keep myself from being bored as I get older. So I want to make my own list of 27 things to accomplish before I turn 27 (I’ve got some time–till Nov. 21)

And I’m going to need your help. These can be things that are fun, maybe a little bit out of my comfort zone, preferably cheap/within my budget/free, and/or adventurous. I’m going to add a few bummer, adult things that just *need* to get done.

  6. Help create 2 Halloween costumes from scratch.
  7. Keep plants alive on our patio and grow some more.
  8. Finish Jane Austen cross stitch
  9. Learn to embroider
  10. Throw a kick ass Halloween party
  11. Learn to cook….what?
  12. Read Little Women
  13. Visit 3 new Houston museums
  14. Get my second holes re-pierced (with Lisa next Friday!)

What else? I need your thoughts!

By the way, how excited are we for April 23rd????

So excited!

*Probably not, but it was the first piece that came to mind. The best advice was probably Nancy Pearl’s Rule of 50. “I live by what I call ‘the rule of fifty,’ which acknowledges that time is short and the world of books is immense. If you’re fifty years old or younger, give every book about fifty pages before you decide to commit yourself to reading it, or give it up.”

~~~~~~Jane Austen Challenge Day 4~~~~~~~~
Favorite Jane Austen quote:
I don’t think it’s in the book, but in the 1996 Emma,
“Jane! You’re a fragile, fragile creature!”
My mom and I love to quote this. All. the. time.
